St. John’s softball alum Loren
Anguiano has earned a spot on the Philadelphia Force’s
roster for the 2007 season. The Philadelphia Force is one of six
teams in the National Pro Fastpitch league and will open its
second season at home on June 7 against the Washington Glory.
Anguiano is the first member of the St. John’s softball program
to become a professional softball player. She will be a utility for
the Force, spending much of her time at third base. This season for
the Red Storm, Anguiano posted the best performance of her career.
She earned third team All-BIG EAST honors after hitting .287 with
38 runs, 50 hits, 13 doubles, 10 home runs and 30 RBI. Anguino was
among the league’s leaders in hits, RBI, doubles and homers all
season.
“I am thrilled that Loren has been given the opportunity to
compete professionally,” said head coach Amy Kvilhaug. “Though I
was only able to spend one year with Loren, it was obvious from the
beginning what a special and talented athlete she is. Not only was
she one of the most talented athletes on the team, but she always
put in the extra work to improve her game. We wish Loren the best
of luck in her professional softball career.”
