SAN MARCOS, Texas – The St. John’s softball team split a pair of games against Texas State, winning the first game 1-0 behind an outstanding performance from senior pitcher Kim Lerch. The Red Storm lost game two, 8-0.

Game One:
Senior pitcher Kim Lerch tossed her finest game of the season against Texas State, a one-hitter where she fanned nine batters and allowed no runs to score. She pitched a complete game, picking up her second win of the season, and was just one shy of her career-high in strikeouts.

St. John’s lone run of the game came in the top of the sixth inning when rookie Shauntaine Harris rocketed a Bobcat offering over the center field fence. It was her second long ball of the season and gave Lerch all the run support she would need.

The Red Storm posted six hits on the board and was led by senior Tami Hill who was 2-for-3 at the plate. Spring Montgomery, Loren Anguiano and Bionka King also contributed hits in the game.

Game Two:
Texas-State took the early lead in game two, scoring a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first inning. St. John’s would not escape the second inning before giving up four runs. The Bobcats Amy Krueger fired a two-run home run in the frame. Texas-State would go on to win 8-0 in five innings.

The Red Storm registered two hits overall. Anguiano singled to right field in her first at bat and freshman Brandy Reyes followed with a hit to center field.

St. John’s will head back to New York after a week-long trip in the Lonestar State. The Red Storm plays in the Hofstra Tournament March 16-17.
