Head coach Allison Davidson is in the midst of her second season
at the helm of the St. John’s women’s tennis program. In August of
2005, Allison Davidson was named head coach of the women’s tennis
program, becoming one of the youngest coaches in Division I
tennis.
Last season, Davidson coached the Red Storm to one of its most
successful seasons in recent years, compiling a 14-7 overall record
and producing a 10-3 mark in BIG EAST action. The team also
finished fifth at the conference tournament. In addition to their
success on the court, Davidson’s first squad also excelled in the
classroom. Last season, seven members were selected as BIG EAST
Academic All-Stars, while two were named to the Chi Alpha Sigma
national student-athlete honor society, and seven were named to the
Athletic Director’s honor roll.
Before coming back to St. John’s to coach in the fall of 2005,
Davidson spent time as the assistant pro at Pine Hallow Country
Club in Oyster Bay, Long Island. While at St. John’s, Davidson
compiled an overall 33-8 singles record playing in all six
positions and was 23-14 in doubles action. Davidson was named
to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I second team after
posting a 3.92 grade-point average during her senior season.
During her senior campaign, Davidson went undefeated in regular
season play, posting a perfect 13-0 record in singles action. As
team captain, she led the Red Storm to an 11-4 record that included
a nine-match winning streak as the team advanced to the BIG EAST
Tournament. At the BIG EAST Tournament, Davidson picked up a win at
the No. 5 singles spot, helping St. John's to a third place
finish. She was also a member of the 2004 squad that was
ranked in the top-75 in the country and was named the team's MVP
for the 2003-04 season.
Davidson graduated magna cum laude from St. John’s University in
2005 and was the recipient of the University’s Golden Key Award for
excellence in journalism.
