HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam
Hey everyone!
Today was our third day playing in the 2007 VTV Cup. With a loss
yesterday against Kazakhstan, it was time to refocus and prepare
for our match against the Vietnam VTV club team. Our match started
at 2 p.m. and confidently we beat them in three games. It was a
great feeling when you’re beating the home team. Especially when
the stands are packed and most of them want to see you lose. We
still have a chance to be first in our pool and I’m pretty sure we
can do it.
After the match we went back to the hotel, showered and ate
lunch. Today’s lunch consisted of duck, pork, noodles and the best
soup so far, chicken and mushroom. Then we were off to the city for
our foot massages and karaoke.
We were all looking forward to the foot massages. To our
surprise it wasn’t just a foot massage, but turned out to be pretty
close to a full body massage. I loved how Jenna and I were the only
ones with male masseuses. The whole massage cost only $7 USD for an
hour. It was amazing! I definitely want to have one each week we’re
here.
After our incredible massages Dr. Le took us to this beautiful
Vietnamese restaurant. They told us we were getting an appetizer
and then ordering a meal, but that was definitely not the case.
First we ate spring rolls, and then more rolls with shrimp and
pork. Next to come out from the kitchen was a fish plate that
everyone tried. Oh wait, there’s more. Then they brought out my
favorite, French fries! We had about five more plates sent out to
the table after that. By the time all the appetizers came out, we
were all stuffed and ready to go home.
However, Dr. Le would not let us go home that soon. After dinner
we went to another hotel where we had our own “VIP” karaoke lounge.
Of course Coach Joanne [Persico-Smith] did an amazing job with
her songs. She has a beautiful voice, but I want to give a shout
out to my singing partner Dana [DeMayo]. We tied for first place
with a score of 100 after singing Hotel California by the Eagles.
Dad, you know I wouldn’t let you down on that one! I think the most
karaoke performance was Ping [Huang], who sang a Chinese song and
did such an amazing job. She’s the next Chinese Idol! After
everyone had their fare share of songs, it was time to head back to
the hotel and go to sleep, so we can prepare for our next match
against Sri Lanka.
Before I go, I want to give a shout out to my loved ones. Dad,
wish you were here to see me play and tell me how to fix my block
like you always did. I need you here! Mom and Cory, I miss you so
much! Last but not lead, my number one fan, Grandpa!!! I love you
all!!
Wish us luck everyone!!
