QUEENS, N.Y.
The St. John’s volleyball team departed Vietnam for New York
City early Thursday morning. After flying back in time, the Red
Storm arrived at JFK International Airport at 10:30 p.m., 9 a.m.
Friday in Vietnam.
The Red Storm’s historic journey through Vietnam flew by fast.
Ask any member of the team and they will tell you that it is hard
to believe that they had been away from New York for 17 days.
Highlighted by a silver medal at the 2007 Vietnam Television
(VTV) Cup International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, the Red
Storm enjoyed having the opportunity to play on national television
against some of the toughest competition in the world, and
experiencing a culture they thought they would never get a chance
to.
The team was given a chance to explore two of the country’s
largest cities and became accustomed to its food, lifestyle and
driving habits. Not seeing the road congested with mopeds was one
aspect of the trip the Red Storm will have to get accustomed
to.
Now, the Red Storm will enjoy its summer vacation. Many will go
home to visit their families, while others will remain at St.
John’s to take summer classes. However, no matter where they go,
their once in a lifetime excursion through Vietnam will always
leave a lasting memory.
Before heading home to Kansas City, Mo., Elizabeth
Austin checked in with RedStormSports.com to post the team’s
final postcard from its historic trip to Vietnam. To view her
